Toni Pujol SagaróFísic i Enginyer Técnic Mecànic
I was born in Lloret de Mar (Spain) in 1971. I obtained the degree in Physics at the University of Barcelona in 1995. In September 1995, I became a member of the Environmental Physics group at the University of Girona as a part-time lecturer and, in 1996, as a PhD student with a research and academic scholarship. I obtained the PhD in 1999 at the University of Girona with a thesis entitled “Climatic thermodynamic models”. Prof. Josep Enric Llebot was my advisor. This PhD thesis received an Extraordinary Doctorate Award in 2002. In 2000, I was granted with a Fulbright-Postdoctoral fellowship that allowed me to stay more than one year at Texas A&M University under the supervision of Prof. Gerald R North. In 2001, I became an assistant professor in the Dept. of Physics at the University of Girona.
From 2003 to 2006 I was exclusively focused on a private company. In 2006 I got the degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Universisty of Girona. In September 2006, I attained the position of assistant professor at the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering. and Industrial Construction at the University of Girona. I became an associate professor in 2008.
Since 2012, I am the academic coordinator of the degree in Mechanical Engineering of the University of Girona.
My former research activity was focused on climate modeling by means of simple thermodynamics models. I also studied the interaction between biosphere and climate. An important part of my research has been the topic of front dynamics, first devoted to analyze human populations and, recently, to investigate the flame front propagation in thin solid fuels.
My expertise in fluid flow simulations has allowed me to apply the computational fluid dynamics to several problems. Some examples are impulse-type hydraulic turbines and filtration systems. Now I am working in energy efficiency topics related with the thermoelectrical effect.
I teach introductory courses of fluid mechanics and hydraulic machinery in the undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. I teach more advanced courses in computational fluid dynamics in post-graduate studies at the University of Girona.
